Finally, the animated series and our pick for 2012:
Cabbie Chronicles: Jamaica 50 Independence Special
Alison Latchman and Anieph Latchman
Animated Short
Jamaica, 2012
We first learned about Cabbie Chronicles through covering the 2011 Animae Caribe Festival, but had the pleasure of seeing this episode as part of the 2012 Flatbush Film Festival. It is a humorous take on the differing views in Jamaica on independence. The Cabbie Chronicles series is a hilarious take on life in Jamaica – thoroughly enjoyable.

Other great animated series/episodes we learned about in 2012:
Dutty Bwoy
Reinardo Chung
Animated Series
Jamaica, 2011
Dutty Bwoy is Jamaican animated series based on three troublesome characters: Strap Don, Wanga & G Swag. These three always seem to have an interesting experience each time they link up … the series also features characters based on actual celebrities. This is one talented brother.
Visit Reinardo’s website, Mental Chung, for more information and to watch other episodes. Watch the first episode here:
I’m Santana
Roger Alexis
Puppet Series
Trinidad & Tobago, 2011
I’m Santana is a comedy/drama based on the popular internet puppet Santana, who battles himself and others to cope with the social ills of his community and his love for Janice. Another show by another very talented brother. Visit the Lexo.TV website for more information and to watch the I’m Santana episodes. Watch the film’s trailer here:
The Dash Out Boys Series
The Pink Report Jamaica
Animated Series
Jamaica, 2012
Not too much of a description on this, but this is a ground-breaking animated series – a Jamaican series focusing on LGBT issues. In this episode, two characters discuss issues related to unprotected sex. Nuff respect to the creators.
For more information, visit the Pink Report’s website. Watch the first episode here:
